Today In Content:

In this new segment, Danny and Saben share some industry news that's happening on the day of recording. This is what was going on on January 12th, 2023:YouTube introduces a policy that could impact YOUR channels, and you probably didn't hear about. Danny explains the policy changes, and tells you what to expect!

The Run of Show:

  • We walk about the top tips we learned when first starting out in content production

    • Consistency- once you become consistent, then you can start to evolve yourself

    • Starting As a Solo Creator- we dig into how to effectively start a channel on your own

    • The Importance of Purpose- without a purpose, you're doomed

  • Consistency:

    • Pick a focus to be "consistent" at

      • Examples: upload schedule, organization, writing, keyword research, filming

    • Set a target of how many days you need to be consistent. Be realistic

      • Example: I want to post at least ONE video this week. I have a busy work week, and can reasonably publish one video without burning myself out

    • With a target in mind, you can break down you big goal into smaller goals to achieve a "flow"

      • Example: I need to make one video. What are the steps?

        • Research a topic

        • Title/Keyword Research

        • Thumbnail Ideas

        • Audience Research

        • etc

    • Achieving a "flow" state (those chunks of time where you're just in your groove, getting sh*t done) becomes much easier when your goals are manageable and attainable

    • Once you are in your process, you can begin to find inefficacies.

      • Example: For every video I make, I always spend a lot of time on my thumbnails. How can I speed up that process?

    • Your process will evolve over time, and you'll become a content creating machine!

  • Starting As a Solo Creator:

    • What should I focus on when starting as a solo creator?

      • Editing- Make sure your videos are visually appealing. Learn how to tell a good story.

      • Thumbnails- Study what makes a good thumbnail. Have a title/thumbnail in mind BEFORE you film anything.

      • Titles- Write 100 titles. Circle the top 10 that worked. Write 100 more with those in mind

    • Outsourcing VS doing it yourself- Danny and Saben talk about the details of when to get the work out of your hands

  • The Importance of Purpose:

    • Purpose is what keeps the creator going, in good times and bad

    • How do you find your purpose?

    • Can your purpose change?

    • Danny breaks down his purpose for creating content for The Odd Man Out Podcast:

      • Example: He creates content that he wished was available when he was first starting out. His goal is to help content creators, from the soloist all the way up to huge brands, achieve their content goals through one on one mentorship.
