For Lack Of Motivation

Episode 6: Enter The Grindset

We Found Your Motivation

And no, it didn't get lost in 2022.I'll be honest, we didn't feel like recording this episode on this day. And I don't even really feel like writing this newsletter. But thanks to this episode, I found the motivation to do it. :P

This episode was a lot of fun to record! Check out the full podcast above if you have the time. Don't worry, we've got the TL:DR ready for you busy bees out there.

The Run of Show:

The Odd Man Out Podcast is a show built by content creators for content creators looking to learn more about the creator economy.

Topic One: Burn Out

  • How to avoid burn out as an editor (or content creator):

    • Have a variety of projects to work on. It gives you the ability to switch to a different task if you're feeling stuck.

    • Make time to work on projects that you're passionate about. When you get really stuck on a project, try to get your mind away from it for some time. Then come back to it.

    • Bonus: try to get creative within your work to get the creative juices flowing

Topic Two: Where to find motivation

  • We find motivation in helping people achieve something. That's our motivation for starting this show.

  • Motivation comes from a strong purpose. If your purpose for doing something is strong, then you will be more motivated to do it. Finding your purpose isn't too hard, we talk about it on our YouTube channel. Motivation finds it's strength from purpose.

  • Odd Man Out's motivation: if putting out ALL of this content only helps ONE person start a successful YouTube channel, then we're happy.

  • To stay motivated, celebrate your milestones. You don't need 1 million subscribers to be "successful"

  • Pro tip: don't tie your motivation to vanity metrics (views, likes, shares). These are usually out of your control, and when you don't get the views you wanted, you'll instantly lose the motivation to do anything more.

Topic Three: Time Management to stay motivated

  • How do you manage your full time job and your personal brand?

  • Tips: Time management is key. Here is Danny's process for time management.

  • Sit down an hour before work

  • Grab a piece of paper

  • Write down every task I need to do, in no particular order

  • Categorize the tasks into "Work", "Odd Man Out", "Personal"

  • Start "work" tasks. Do this for the work day

  • After 5:30PM, start "Odd Man Out" tasks

  • Any remaining tasks, roll over to the next day and start before work

  • Repeat daily

  • Bonus: don't put hard deadlines in your calendar. Allow yourself to ease in and out of tasks.
